If the drive is not in an enclosure (external hard drive) then your best bet is going to be to call a data recovery company like DTI Data Recovery. We use them at work and haven't had any issues with them. To make matters worse, i can't boot into dos and run programs from there because the laptop is newer and doesn't have a floppy drive so programs like killdisk won't work.
